While the symposium received full marks from artists and academics, Hasan Kılca, the Mayor of Karatay, said, “These arts are both our tradition and our future. We, the municipality, will continue to protect this heritage and hand it down to the next generations.” Prof. Dr. Ali Fuat Baysal, the Chairman of Symposium Organizing Committee, on the other hand, said, "We can say that this program is one of the symposiums implemented on its own in the field of traditional arts, and maybe it is the first."
The “first international symposium of our tradition, our future and our masters” held in Karatay Thermal Holiday Village ended.
This symposium organized in cooperation with Karatay Municipality, Traditional Handicrafts Application and Research Center of Necmettin Erbakan University, General Directorate of Fine Arts of Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Turkish Cooperation, and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and General Directorate of Copyrights, was held with the participation of important local and foreign academics and artists, who work and produce in traditional art branches that have an important place in Turkish-Islamic civilization.
Much theoretical information, papers, and presentations about traditional arts, which were previously passed through the refereeing process, were presented and discussed by academicians at the symposium for three days. Besides Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and many other countries, many important names from the home country participated in the symposium. Besides the symposium, workshops, applied works of traditional arts, and exhibitions took place during the organization.
THESE ARTS ARE BOTH OUR TRADITION AND OUR FUTURE
Hasan Kılca, the Mayor of Karatay, also attended the symposium and examined the applied studies carried out within the scope of the symposium. Mayor Hasan Kılca, who spoke in the symposium, thanked the Traditional Handicrafts Application and Research Center of Necmettin Erbakan University, General Directorate of Fine Arts of Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), and the General Directorate of Copyrights, who contributed to the organization of the program.
Hasan Kılca said, “The symposium was extremely good and productive. Our tradition and our future are actually these arts. We can build cities, do very good works in physical and infrastructural aspects, but if there is no art in a society, the revival of generations will always remain incomplete and one side of our wing will always remain broken. With this symposium, we also ensure that our generations recognize, understand, live, and sustain the traditional arts from our ancestors. I sincerely congratulate all our stakeholders, participants, and all our guests, especially Necmettin Erbakan University, who made great efforts in the organization of the symposium.”
WE CAN SAY THAT THIS PROGRAM IS ONE OF THE SYMPOSIUMS IMPLEMENTED ON ITS OWN IN THE FIELD OF TRADITIONAL ARTS, AND MAYBE IT IS THE FIRST.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Fuat Baysal, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the “First International Symposium, Workshop, and Exhibition of Our Tradition, Our Future, and Our Masters ", also underlined that the symposium was organized within the framework of the cooperation protocol signed between Necmettin Erbakan University and Karatay Municipality, and emphasized that the organization was very successful.
Ali Fuat Baysal cited the following: “This program is one of the symposiums implemented on its own in the field of traditional arts, and maybe it is the first. For three days, it was focused on the development of traditional arts, their maintenance, and support without losing its soul. With this organization, it was very nice to bring together the teachers of our teachers, our teachers, our masters, and surely our young generation students, and we achieved very fruitful results. We aim to organize the symposium every two years. Thus, a very good tradition shall be initiated from this point”.

Academicians, masters and artists who contributed to the symposium with their theoretical information, papers, and presentations as well as their applied studies also stated that the "First International Symposium on Our Tradition, Our Future and Our Masters" was very good and productive.
Painter and Miniature Artist Günseli Kato, introduced herself as follows: "I am someone who has dressed and internalized art, especially traditional arts, culture and the miniaturist culture of the palace", and said that she has always been dealing with traditional arts, which are the unique products of our ancient civilization.
Kato said, “This art has been made for centuries and nothing has been replicated in any period. I am a lover of this unrepeatable culture. I have lived abroad for many years and after returning to my country, I attempted to present everything I have acquired to our society through miniatures. Konya is a pearl drop in Turkey. Konya is a unique city through which the Khorasan saints passed, the capital city of the Seljuk State, and offers us the sensation of eternity due to its geographical structure. I receive invitations from everywhere, but coming to Konya is utterly different for me. It has been indescribable happiness for me to participate in such an important program. Congratulations to those who contributed”
Abdelghani Douakh, the calligrapher, attended the symposium from Algeria and shared his knowledge and experience with the participants with his applied work in the organization, said the following, “I am a teacher at the High School of Fine Arts in Algeria, and also a Calligrapher. I also have a workshop in the field of tile art. It is a great honor for me to participate in this symposium held in Konya. The symposium was very useful and fruitful for me. I would like to thank Necmettin Erbakan University for their efforts in the organization of the symposium, and Karatay Municipality for showing us hospitality very well and for hosting the symposium”.
Calligrapher Abderrazak Kara Bernou, who also attended the symposium from Algeria, said, “Calligraphy is set a great deal in Algeria, and this field is considered as a legacy from our past. I have been working in this field for 36 years. Like my other friends, I benefited a lot from this symposium, and it was a very good experience for me. Turkey is a country that has always lived together with traditional arts for years, and it made me very happy. I want to thank Necmettin Erbakan University and Karatay Municipality for organizing the symposium.”
